Between January 1 and September 4, 2026, Uber Eats signed 36,932 new restaurants in Japan and 44,447 in the United States. That is 83% of the US count, in a country with roughly a third of the population: 124 million people against 340 million.
Per capita, Japan is ahead: 298 new restaurants per million people against 131 in the US, 2.3× as many.
Month by month, Japan has been catching up. Its cumulative count was 49% of the US figure in January and 82% by the end of August. The step change came in March, when Japan signed 5,018 restaurants against 2,913 in February: the month Wolt ended its service in Japan. Over July and August, Japan added 10,715 while the US added 4,112.
Taiwan, the third market, follows a steadier path and reached 18,135 by the end of August.
