In this restaurant data sample, 17.4% of locations appear on DoorDash but not Uber Eats, compared with 3.8% on Uber Eats alone. DoorDash therefore has 4.5× as many listings found only on its platform in this two-platform comparison. Another 43.3% appear on both. Here, “only” describes observed listings, not an exclusive contract. Coverage measures listed restaurant supply; it does not measure orders, revenue or consumer market share.

For commercial teams comparing food delivery platforms, city-level restaurant data adds context that a national total cannot provide. A platform with a smaller national footprint may still have substantial coverage in a target city. Review restaurant counts, population and local platform overlap together when selecting a market for further research.

Uber Eats restaurant coverage tends to be higher in states with larger cities. The state-level correlation with average city population on a log scale is 0.65. This is an association, not evidence that population causes adoption. Switch between city and state views to explore the pattern. The state view uses restaurant-weighted average city population.

03Restaurant intelligence in practice

Use restaurant data to identify local platform coverage gaps

Separate existing coverage from potential demand.

DoorDash-only restaurants account for 17.4% of the sample. This identifies an observed difference in listed supply. It does not establish a restaurant’s willingness to add another platform, its order volume or the commercial value of signing it. Those questions require further qualification.

For market research, group restaurants by city and platform presence. Then assess the operator, cuisine and local competitive context before turning that research into a sales target list. This connects restaurant intelligence to a specific commercial decision.

Compare local markets before setting expansion priorities.

The coverage gap falls from +14.5 pp in qualifying cities with 5,000–50,000 residents to +9.0 pp above 200,000. A national coverage average can hide useful local differences. Treat these patterns as inputs to market selection, then validate the economics and operational constraints of each candidate market.

A smaller gap can reflect strong coverage by both platforms. A larger gap can identify locations worth investigating, but does not demonstrate unmet consumer demand. Check local courier supply, existing delivery options and restaurant economics before treating a listing gap as an opportunity.

Qualify restaurants listed on neither platform.

Restaurants observed on neither platform remain in every city-size band. Their share is 29.0% in qualifying cities with 50,000–200,000 residents and approximately 32.4% in the smallest qualifying band. “Neither” means neither DoorDash nor Uber Eats in this snapshot; these restaurants may use other platforms or their own delivery channels.

Notes and data sources

How the restaurant coverage comparison was built.

Universe
769,297 U.S. physical restaurant locations from CompanyProspect, built from Google Maps business records and deduplicated at location level.
Platform matching
Each restaurant was matched to its observable online presence on DoorDash and Uber Eats, then classified as DoorDash only, Uber Eats only, both, or neither. “Only” refers to this two-platform comparison, not a contractual exclusivity agreement.
Penetration
Platform penetration is the share of restaurants classified as that platform only or both. It measures observable listed supply, not transactions, market share, or delivery availability at every address.
City and state views
The city analysis includes cities with population ≥5,000 and at least 100 restaurants. Size-band results are restaurant weighted; the state view uses restaurant-weighted average city population and includes 50 states plus D.C.

Rounded values may not sum perfectly. Platform listings change over time; this analysis is a point-in-time snapshot prepared in August 2026.
